Man who allegedly faked death faces charge

By Pam Easton, Associated Press Writer | November 16, 2004

HOUSTON -- A businessman who authorities say faked his death in a boating accident has been accused of fraud involving a Minnesota bank, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
The U.S. Coast Guard spent several days searching for Larry Michael Nixon, 55, after his 40-foot speedboat, the "Living Extra Fast," collided with a barge in the Houston Ship Channel in August 2003.

In January, Nixon was arrested in Weatherford, about 35 miles west of Fort Worth, on a felony fraud warrant from Wood County, W. Va. A prosecutor there said Nixon pleaded guilty this month and was sentenced to a year in prison for a scheme in which he received $425,000 in 1994 from a West Virginia man
