ODNR's 2005 calendar features Mullins boats

By LARRY SHIELDS/Salem News staff writer

Three boats manufactured by the W.H. Mullins Co. in Salem are featured in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft 2005 calendar.
The month of April features photos of the Steel King and the runabout inboard boat, Sea Eagle.

The month of October features a Duplex Hull Red Arrow.

The Mullins boats are the only ones spotlighted twice in the calendar which also includes the division's 2004 annual report.

According to Rob Lucas of the ODNR Division of Watercraft, his department wanted to highlight historical boat manufacturers in Ohio and contacted David Dufresne, president of the Mullins Boat Club of Salem, Ohio, Inc.

The club has an extensive website at www.mullinsboats.com.

Lucas said he also visited the Salem Public Library to acquire information on the Mullins boats.

"We just knew Mullins was a boat manufacturer in Ohio," Lucas said. "We thought they it was great we could actually use them for two months."

He added, "We usually just put out a calendar with activities, but this year also has the annual report."

Lucas said the annual report is sent to legislators and boating safety partners like the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Power Squadron.
